LARP or The Library Adult Reading Project offers a solution to adult illiteracy. They train volunteers to tutor adults and provide individualized instruction in reading and writing skills. Materials, as well as training for tutors and students, are free. Helping an estimated 750,000 people in Los Angeles that cannot read or write English well enough to meet their daily needs.
PROBLEM: Participation and awareness in LARP as been declining for the last several years. City and State funding threaten to cut the program if participation does not increase.
OBJECTIVES: To give the program a new, fresher look. The current brochure had a tired, dated look. The redesign should have a more engaging design but still connect with the traditional values of the targeted audience.
AUDIENCE: Adults who wish to be involved in their community. Age range: 18 to 70, male and female. They are socially conscious and aware of current events. Many are retired, or self-employed. A small percentage are college students. They have traditional values, but are not necessarily “old-fashioned”.
